Changing the Narrative

Elektra Health Salon

When you think of menopause, what words come to mind? Hormonal? Old? Moody? Over-the-hill?

At last week’s Elektra Health Salon event Modern Medicine: From “Fearing The Change” to “Ready for Primetime”we asked women to write down words that they associate with menopause. As you could guess, most of the words were negative.

In 2020, isn’t about time we change the narrative and and reframe how we talk about, approach and treat menopause? It can be a challenging time for women, that’s for sure. But the words we use and the way we talk about this phase of life is due for a refresh. Read our latest blog post to learn more.

In 2020, isn’t about time we change the narrative and reframe how we talk about, approach and treat menopause? It can be a challenging time for women, that’s for sure. But the words we use and the way we talk about this phase of life is due for a refresh.

How you can reframe the menopause conversation today:

  1. Revisit What if we didn’t dread menopause?, one of our favorite NY Times OpEds of all time.
  2. Have an open conversation with your family members: Ask your mother about her experience to understand how menopause may impact you. Teach your children (and partner!) about hormones and how they change over time.
  3. Help us normalize the menopause / hormonal health journey by sharing your story with the Elektra community.  Email [email protected] to be featured on the Elektra blog.
